Bio

Ava Cison is an impact producer with a background in environmental science and documentary film. She holds a B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from Chapman University, where she focused on the intersections of storytelling, sustainability, and community engagement. Through multiple creative mediums, she explores the art of scientific inquiry, questions humanity’s unique position on our planet, & illuminates a collective beauty that we all belong to. She is deeply inspired by the evolving relationship between humanity and the natural world, seeking thoughtful approaches to bridge this divide. Her experience spans both research and media, with roles that emphasize equity, advocacy, and outreach. As a Research Assistant on a NASA Environmental Equity & Justice project, Ava collaborated with interdisciplinary teams to advance climate equity and amplify underrepresented perspectives in environmental research. She has also worked as a researcher for the 60 Second Docs department of Indigenous Media and has collaborated as a director and producer on several short documentaries. Her diverse background in both documentary and narrative film allows her to merge science, storytelling, and artistry, inspiring deeper awareness and appreciation for the world around us. She currently serves as an impact producer on a feature documentary focused on environmental education. Her work is driven by the belief that documentary film can serve as a catalyst for systemic change when paired with meaningful engagement strategies. Ava seeks to connect filmmakers, educators, and community leaders to ensure that powerful stories translate into measurable social and environmental impact.
