Bio

Fatimah Oriola is an award-winning writer, storyteller and documentary filmmaker who creates content that reflects and impacts humanity. Her work explores themes of culture, human rights issues, and social and economic justice. She was born in North Central Nigeria, a region ravaged by inter-communal and inter-religious conflict, as well as attacks by the terrorist group Boko Haram. In 2012, she shot a short documentary on the rural tribes caught in the conflict. The impact campaign from that film led to a peace treaty being signed between two of these rural communities. Her graduation production at AFDA was a story that addressed abuse of power in a religious setting and it was the most awarded production at AFDA Cape Town in 2018. She has a Motion Picture Degree in Television and is currently pursuing an Honours Degree in Documentary Film Theory and Practice from the University of Cape Town.
