Bio
Helena Yli-Kyyny holds a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies and a Master’s degree in Media Production. Helena has worked as a freelance film editor since 2010 and, in recent years, also as an impact producer for the documentary films Lynx Man (2023) and The Making of a Japanese (2023). The goal for Lynx Man impact campaign was to increase public awareness about the lynx and support conservation. Campaign also promoted more sustainable relationship with nature and wildlife. The impact campaign for The Making of a Japanese raised discussion about the similarities and differences between Finnish and Japanese elementary schools.
Helena has also published a report (2020) about funding and education project that was created for to encourage Finnish documentary film makers to do impact work with their films. In her recent master’s degree thesis (2025), she examined the Finnish audiovisual industry through three concepts: responsibility, impact and communication. The aim of this research was to explore how audiovisual companies can leverage the opportunities of social impact as part of sustainable and vibrant business. Helena is particularly interested in documentary films, storytelling, impact producing and research — as well as making the world a better place through these means.
