Bio

Irene Mukonyoro is a media professional and impact producer with over 20 years of experience in broadcast production, documentary filmmaking, and community engagement. She holds a master’s degree in communication studies and a degree in journalism and media studies from the University of Nairobi. Her work focuses on using storytelling to drive social change, particularly in the areas of women’s rights, climate change, child welfare, and human rights. As an impact producer for Filamu Dada, a project under Media Focus on Africa and Docubox, Irene led efforts to bring films about women in leadership back to local communities, fostering dialogue on gender and governance. She ensured that these screenings were more than just film viewings—they became platforms for reflection, accountability, and civic engagement. Beyond Filamu Dada, Irene is committed to producing documentaries that amplify underrepresented voices. She is particularly focused on issues affecting women and girls, such as gender-based violence, female genital mutilation, and access to leadership opportunities. She also explores the intersection of climate change and human rights, highlighting the stories of those most affected. Irene believes in ethical, community-driven storytelling that not only informs but inspires action. Through her work, she continues to advocate for justice, equity, and the transformative power of film.
