Her work stands out for its ability to tell stories that combine visual beauty with complex, compelling characters. She is currently leading two projects: a feature documentary about female leaders in Brazil’s Cerrado biome—women who act as guardians of the region’s water springs—and a detective fiction series, which she created and will write and direct. In the advertising world, Joana has directed campaigns for major brands such as Vivo, Jeep, Coca-Cola, Sanofi, Natura, and Brastemp/Whirlpool—the latter awarded Gold at the MAA Globes Awards. She recently launched the documentary series Um Brasil de Energia in partnership with Petrobras, which travels across Brazil portraying transformative socio-educational initiatives. Through these experiences, Joana has also begun shaping the impact potential of her projects, working to ensure that powerful stories don’t just inform, but drive real-world change.
