Bio

Saroj S. Sapkota is a filmmaker from Nepal, known for his impactful storytelling and dedication to social issues. Based in Kathmandu, Saroj has made significant contributions to the film industry, particularly in using cinema as a tool for human rights advocacy. Saroj is actively involved in the film society movement in Nepal. As a head of programming and trainer at the Human Rights Film Center, he works passionately to harness the power of media to promote human rights and amplify the voices of marginalized communities. Through his training programs, he has equipped human rights defenders, journalists, students, and members of marginalized groups—including child and women soldiers from Nepal’s decade-long conflict—with the skills to tell their own stories through visual storytelling. A firm believer in cinema’s transformative power, Saroj has participated in prestigious international film labs and workshops, such as Ekadeshma Film Lab supported by Open Doors Locarno, TFL Next in Torino, and The Rotterdam Lab. His work underscores a commitment to social change, aiming to challenge societal norms, raise awareness, and foster greater understanding of issues faced by marginalized communities in Nepal and beyond.
